I guess it all just really depends on the context and who you say it around.

Like here in Massachusetts, Bostonians have almost kind of like a sub-language. If you said ';paki' here people would interpret it as a ';packie', which would be a package store, aka a liquor store.

Really? Why does New England have such weird sub-context that I never know about? D:

-recalls our many arguments about 'the bubbler'-

Frankly, Its rude. I have a freind who is Pakastainin (sp? lol im stupid) and someone called her that and she is sensitive about it. Now if It wasnt used as an insult, then its ok. My dad said that it was a rasist slur during the old times, calling people Japs or paki. Frankly I think no one should be judjed by race, If some one called me a name like Cracker (I'm white) I would be sort of hurt. The moral: Don't call people names (especialy not Rasist names) because it hurts alot. Paki is eather rude or not, Its confusing, just don't use the term please ^^

Cracker is an obvious derogatory term, as it is not descriptive of your race. Just as Dyke was created instead of using lesbian or lezzer.

Paki, however, is a correct descriptive name to use for someone of Pakistani descent. It is peoples USE of it that has made it a slur. I have had several pakistani friends when I was at school who often referred to eachother as Paki, and had no qualms with people referring to them as such as long as it wasn't rude.
For example,

"I love paki fashion,"
as opposed to
"Fuck off, paki,"

See the difference?
