Panel Ideas

Journal Entry: Thu Oct 6, 2011, 7:31 AM

Ramblings...

-------Panel Ideas-------

So, Jenn and I want to increase the number of panels we hold that are more than just a Q&A.
To date, we've done panels for :

- Filming for YouTube
- Prop Making
- Wig Styling
- Body Painting

What kind of thing would you guys like to see us give panels on, that you think we might be able to give a decent sized presentation on? Nothing too specific like 'How to make an Axel wig' or 'How to sew a Cloud costume', please!

Twin and Nova did a good panel at Alcon about Cosplay Groups, which Jenn and I thought was a good idea, and might do our own take on that (seeing as we often get asked how we made our group etc). That's just one idea though. We're looking for inspiration for more panels!

So yes, fire away with your ideas! They can be to do with aaaaaanything you think we might be qualified to talk about!

What do you think about a panel on ''getting really in-character?'' If you've got any tips on identifying with your character more easily or thinking of "what would they do if:___" situations. Share your experience during filming for your vids? Did you have to improv a lot? Did you do many different takes?

For pictures, I'm gunna use ~Rossmonster's pic [link] as an example: she's not just standing there, she's swinging a crowbar, and she's not in a park, she's in a dark room with old furniture. She's in a setting that fits the character, in a pose that fits the character, not simply standing in a generic pose with her front yard as the backdrop, y'know?? You guys seem to find a lot of great places that identify with the characters, and you interact with the settings well.

I also really like the parents / "Dealing with Cosplay Haters" idea.

I've always wondered how you guys can keep such a straight face, when everything that's going on could make even Zexion bust up. xD
I mean, I've definitely seen your bloopers, but are there any pointers you might have to make it easier? :P

I have a simple idea, that could apply to cosplayers and non-cosplayers: "Traveling to other cons".

The panel is for people who have never traveled to cons outside of their own town/state/country (or who rarely do so) and should cover:

- Picking a convention to go to
- Finding people to go with you
- Pre-registration (buying your badge online to prevent waiting too long in line)
- Booking hotel rooms, or finding people you can stay with at their dorms/apartments/houses
- Transport: car, bus, train or plane?
- Going out of the country: Passport, currency exchange, knowledge of language, laws, regulations, customs and traditions of the destination country
- A checklist of items to bring for cosplayers and non-cosplayers
- How/where to get help if problems arise

You guys have traveled to cons throughout the U.K. as well as the U.S. and Canada, and should be able to provide most information. :)

Ooh, this is definitely a different idea! I'll add this to the list! Cheers, Henry :)

You're welcome!

I'll try myself to give this panel next year at a couple of cons. It's easy to find co-panelists, since a lot of people I know travel to cons in other cities! We could do it like this: I'll cover the basics, another panelist will talk about going to cons in a different state/province, and another will talk about attending cons in other countries. Just mainly essential information, no need to fill up with our silly road trip stories, unless we got some really good stories to tell! =P

I like the idea for a "Filming for YouTube" panel, because I am having issues with entertaining other people with the derp me and my friends laugh at, that holds no interest for other people. Also, naming shows/cosplay groups, because that has been incredibly hard for a lot of people.

Cosplay groups would be nice. How to keep everybody sane.

(If you came to MetroCon) Body Painting. Most likely, (I think) that it would be diffcult to bring paint and many supplies overseas, but just talking about how to make painting as perfect as possible would be a good panel.

Crossplaying. Such as binding and stuff of the nature.
