For a recent automotive expo in Germany, we wanted some new footage to show what our High Speed cameras could do.

So, we recorded these water-filled balloons being popped by a crossbow bolt at 1000 frames per second and, as comparison, I also photographed it using the \'continuous shoot\' mode on the Nikon D40.

This is the D40 result. Whereas on the Fastcam you could see the water still in a balloon-like shape once the plastic had been popped, here you cannot even see the bolt while it is still in flight.

This video gained us much interest at the auto expo.

Have you thought about trying it with paint?

We did talk about it... but paint is much heavier, so wouldn't retain shape quite so nicely.

Also, we don't think the landlord of the site we did this own would be pleased about us getting paint everywhere!!!

You can also try putting food coloring in the water.
